"This is a good school. Pupils are happy and achieve well as a result of good teaching and good care." (Ofsted 2006)

Science

Science will be taught as a single subject or part of a wider theme. It is taught as knowledge and through the investigation of wider concepts.

Science, as with most areas of the curriculum must start with the child's known environment and experience. The children are encouraged to use their senses exploring, sorting and grouping objects in the immediate environment. They begin to be aware of similarities and differences and learn to record their findings in a variety of different ways.

As children get older their understanding of the world in which we live increases. Logical thought is promoted and a greater depth of understanding is expected. Children begin to design their own experiments to test ideas. The need for fair testing will be developed. Children will work in a variety of groupings encouraging them to consider carefully how they will communicate their findings to others.

I.C.T.

We are fortunate in having an interactive smart board and multimedia projector in each classroom. This gives us the opportunity to do things not possible with an ordinary whiteboard and gives a 21st century feel to our classrooms. Our use of smart boards was highly commended in our OfSTED inspection. All classes are connected to the Internet and the children learn that ICT is a tool that can help them in all subjects of the curriculum. The children have access to both PCs and a trolley of laptops. The school has gained two prestigious awards in 2006 for its use of ICT to support learning: the NAACE Mark and ICT Mark.
