Milton CE school council started in September 2005. The School Council is made up of 16 children, all of whom are voted onto the council by the children in their class. Two children per class are elected, four from each year group, and they serve for one year.

The School Council was established as a means to give the children a voice in how the school is organised and an opportunity to make changes in areas they feel do not work or could be improved. They have a small budget to spend in the way they think is best.

School Council meets every fortnight and there is a set agenda including class proposals. There are Class council meetings where class reps report back and where all the children in the school can make suggestions on issues raised. These are shared at the next School Council meeting.

Pupils views are regularly sought, for example new playground apparatus has recently been installed on the Key Stage 2 field following consultations with the school council. School council has also been very involved in the school’s work on Healthy Schools putting forward ideas about the school dining envorinmnet, packed lunches, physical actvity etc.

When we hold interviews for key staff appointments representatives for the school council have an opportunity to meet the candidates and ask them questions. There views are then fed back to the interview panel.
